Traditional Kitty Respect
It’s probably safe to say that cats have been wrapping humans around their paws for thousands of years. In fact, kitties were so respected in ancient Egypt that people used to shave their eyebrows in mourning when their feline friends passed on. (You may have seen the quote about how cats have never forgotten the fact that the ancient Egyptians considered them sacred.) Egypt wasn’t the only part of the world that revered Fluffy, however. The Chinese were also quite smitten with these adorable furballs. In fact, they even have a word that translates more or less into ‘cat servant!’
Showing Fluffy Respect
If it were up to Fluffy, you would probably celebrate this kitty holiday by presenting her with a stocked fishpond, catnip garden, lots of toys, and wall-to-wall catwalks. Your pet may also insist on extended play sessions, treats, and, of course, lots of cuddles and lap time. However, you really don’t have to go all out here. The best way to respect your cat is to simply offer her great TLC! Good food, proper veterinary care, and a clean litterbox are all important. Your pet should also have some kitty comforts, such as soft beds, pet-safe plants, and kitty furniture, as well as some things to investigate, like boxes, paper grocery bags, and newspaper tunnels.
Avoiding Disrespect
Part of respecting cats is, well, not disrespecting them. Your feline buddy won’t care if you post an unflattering photo of her on social media. However, she may get upset if you reprimand or ignore her. You should never punish your pet for misbehaving. This may just scare her! Instead, focus on rewarding her for being good. It’s also important to pay lots of attention to your cat. However, you should always let your pet decide when cuddle time starts and stops. Too much attention, too little attention, and the wrong kind of attention are all major signs of disrespect in Fluffy’s book!
