Stocking Stuffers For Fido

December 15, 2021

Happy Holidays! The seasonal hustle and bustle is now going full swing. Shopping is always a big priority at this time of year. It’s not always easy finding just the right presents for your loved ones! We probably can’t help much with picking things out for your boss or your elderly aunt, but we can offer a few suggestions on what to get your dog! A Salem, VA vet lists a few of them below.

Toys

Fido is always adorably happy when he spots a new plaything. Keep in mind that dogs use their mouths to play. Be sure to choose things that are the right size for your canine friend. Otherwise, he could hurt his mouth or teeth.

Treats

This probably isn’t much of a surprise. After all, treats are the ultimate tail wag starters! Just look for healthy options. Ask your vet for specific recommendations.

Dental Products

Cosmetic appeal isn’t really the point of doggy dental care. Your four-legged friend will still be super cute with a crooked smile! However, issues like abscesses, misalignments, and gum disease can cause painful problems for Fido, and can contribute to other health issues. Add some dental products to your pup’s stockings. Nylabones are one good option. You can also give your pooch dental-formula treats, or offer him dental flakes or oral rinses. Doggy toothbrushes and toothpastes are also a good bet. If your furry pal isn’t used to these, ask your vet for tips on training him.

GPS Tag

Some of our canine companions are very good boys, who will stick faithfully by their humans, no matter where they are. Others will bolt off at the slightest opportunity. If your pup is prone to running off in search of adventure (or squirrels), you may want to consider getting him a tag or collar that is equipped with GPS technology.

Paw Care

Fido’s furry feet need some attention as well. Issues such as cracked paw pads and long nails aren’t just uncomfortable for your four-legged buddy; they can also impact his mobility and overall quality of life. Paw balm is a great thing to put into your canine buddy’s stocking. You can also get your pooch some new nail clippers, booties, or even a nail grinder.

We all want to wish you and your families a wonderful holiday season. Please contact us, your Salem, VA animal hospital, anytime.
