Our Veterinarians

Dr. Lucinda Hodges
Owner, Veterinarian
Even when she was just a small child Dr. Lucinda Hodges felt a deep desire to save every living thing that she could. When her puppy narrowly made it through a serious case of parvovirus, she knew that she wanted to help other pets avoid similar hardships! Dr. Hodges cannot remember a time when she didn’t want to be a Veterinarian—she’s proud to now serve the pets and animal owners of Roanoke as the owner and operator of Harris Animal Hospital.

Dr. Hodges is a Roanoke native and attended Roanoke College to earn her undergraduate degree in biology as well as a minor in chemistry. She went on to receive her Doctorate from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 1992—immediately after graduating, she was thrilled to accept a position here at Harris Animal Hospital as an Associate Veterinarian. Dr. Hodges has been caring for the area’s pets here ever since! She took over ownership duties in 2010 and has special interests in dental work, geriatric and hospice care for our older companions, as well as behavioral counseling.

Away from the hospital, Dr. Hodges is fond of horseback riding, kayaking and hiking, cooking, practicing her photography skills, fostering dogs, and spending time with her own animal companions at home. She and her husband share their lives with a senior Clydesdale, three elderly goats, a cat named Cheeto, and 14 lovable dogs: Cassidy, Wanda, Sampson, Gunther, Desi, Rammi, Cody, Bear, Tinsel, Onslow, Kipper, Dawson, Monkey, and Dollar. Their portraits, taken by Dr. Hodges herself, can be found lining the walls of Harris Animal Hospital!
