Autumn is finally here! The weather is cooling off, and we’re able to enjoy that beautiful scenery while enjoying yummy seasonal treats. This may very well be Fido’s favorite time of year, or at least one of them. After all, your pet gets to run and play without getting so hot. Read on as a Roanoke, VA vet lists some things to put on your fall to-do list.
Take A Photo
Fall is a wonderful time to snap some cute seasonal photos of your canine buddy. Enlist a friend or family member to take a few great shots of you and Fido.
Enjoy A Long Walk
Autumn’s gorgeous foliage and cool breezes makes for some perfect doggy-walking weather. Grab a travel mug of your favorite tea or coffee, and explore a beautiful park or trail with your furry best friend.
Get Ready For Winter
Winter is coming! If Fido has thin fur, he’ll need a jacket or sweater to wear on cold days. Make sure that your furry friend’s clothes are clean and in good condition. Repair any rips or tears, and make sure everything still fits. Stock up on pet-friendly de-icing agents as well. This is also a good time to give your canine pal a good bath and wash his bedding.
Have A Snack
At this time of year, stores and restaurants are featuring pumpkin-flavored everything. Why not give Fido a seasonal snack? Mix pureed pumpkin with natural peanut butter, whole-wheat flour, and an egg. Mix it into a batter, then pour into a brownie or cupcake pan. You can also get a cute bone-shaped mold. Cook for about 20 minutes at 350.
Offer Doggy Comforts
Older dogs often develop arthritis or hip dysplasia. These conditions can be aggravated by cold weather. If your pup gets stiff and sore when it’s chilly out, ask your vet about pain management options. Laser therapy, for instance, can be very helpful in treating arthritis in pets. Fido may also benefit from supplements, massage, medication, and/or heated beds.
Relax
Sooner or later, fall will offer one of those cold, drizzly days. This is perfect doggy-snuggle weather! Settle in with a good book or movie, some comfort food, and your furry bff. Lazy autumn days can be great for the soul!
