Happy Healthy Cat Month

September 15, 2019

September is Happy, Healthy Cat Month! Kitties deserve to be happy and healthy all the time, and we’ve dedicated ourselves to this purrfect cause. Read on as a Roanoke, VA vet offers some tips on keeping your feline buddy content.

Good Food

Good nutrition is key to keeping your kitty in good health. Offer your furball the best food you can afford. (Tip: get into the habit of reading ingredient labels, and choose products that list meat, fish, or poultry first and most often.) Portion size is also important. It’s extremely easy to overfeed a cat, especially one that meows for more food immediately after finishing her supper. Ask your vet for specific advice.

Clean Facilities

Make sure to keep your pet’s litterbox clean! Dirty litterboxes are not only both smelly and unsightly, they can also lead to infections.

Keep Kitty In

Although many cats love going outdoors, Fluffy is much safer as an indoor pet, where she is protected from cars, weather, and other hazards.

Purrniture

Fluffy will really appreciate having some things she doesn’t have to share with her humans. Cat towers are a purrfect choice, as they offer your pet a napping spot, jungle gym, and nail care station, and also provide her with a place where she can look down at her kingdom with a superior, self-satisfied look. Your pet may also appreciate kitty tents or tunnels, or even a box castle.

Kitty Comforts

As you’ve probably noticed, cats are rather sleepy. Setting out lots of beds and napping spots will help your pet feel pampered. Offer Fluffy at least one comfy window seat, so she can watch birds and squirrels.

Entertainment

Cats are very playful and curious, and will get bored with nothing to do but stare at the walls all day. Make sure your furry pal has plenty of playthings, and take time to play with her regularly.

Veterinary Care

Fluffy may not be very happy about visiting us, but she’ll be much healthier with proper veterinary care. Your feline friend should be microchipped, spayed or neutered, and kept current on exams, vaccinations, and parasite control.

Attention

Kitties are happiest when they feel loved and pampered. Pay attention to Fluffy, and spend time with her every day!
